Expedition 2028

The Expedition Subterranea team is leading the research expedition into the Earth’s interior. Our aim is to verify the existence of access to the Earth’s interior and to explore the underground world. The geological data collected and the documentation of social and ecological structures can help science gain new insights.

How we get there

The planned expedition will start on January 3, 2028, as the climatic conditions are expected to be optimal at that time. The only known entrance is located within a restricted Arctic zone in Mac-Robertson Land.

The expedition starts in the port of Hobart, Australia. The crossing on the expedition vessel will take approximately 12 days.

On the Arctic mainland, we then face a three-day, 250 km crossing by snowmobile to the base camp.

Documenting the ascent and descent will take approximately one day. We plan to stay in Subterranea for at least two months, provided our project succeeds and the reception is peaceful.
